The Extra Hour

Daylight Saving Time means the sun sets an hour later at Killington. That golden-hour window from 5 to 6 PM is yours now. Here's what to do with it.

What Changes

One hour. A completely different afternoon.

On March 7, the sun sets at 5:49 PM. On March 8, it sets at 6:50 PM. Same mountain. Same snow. A full extra hour of light.

What 5-to-6 PM looks like after DST

Before DST, 5 PM meant packing it in. After? It's the best hour on the mountain.

5:00 PM
Crowds thin out
Day-trippers head home. The mountain empties. Lift lines disappear.
5:15 PM
The golden hour starts
Low sun across the peaks. The light turns everything amber. This is the view people remember.
5:30 PM
Soft snow, empty trails
Afternoon warmth loosened the groomers. You're skiing corn on trails that were crowded two hours ago.
5:45 PM
Last lifts wind down
Most lifts close at 4 PM. But the K-1 Gondola runs later, and the views on the ride down are worth waiting for.
6:00 PM
Deck drinks in daylight
Walk out of the lodge and the sun is still up. That changes everything about après.
6:30 PM
Sunset from the access road
Pull over at the overlook on Route 4. The ridge catches the last light. Locals know this view.
6:50 PM
Actual sunset
And you saw every minute of it.
Your Extra Hour

What should you do with it?

Two questions. We'll plan your 5-to-6 PM.

After a full day on the mountain, you want to...
Keep riding
The legs aren't done yet
Wind down outside
But not inside yet
Get food immediately
Running on a granola bar since noon
Do something different
Not skiing, not eating yet
